AVID BBQ / September 7, 2012

Dear AVID Families,

Come join the Churchill High School AVID classes at our first annual school year kick-off and tailgate party. This will be a great opportunity to meet the AVID teachers and fellow AVID students. The BBQ will begin at 6pm, followed by the varsity football game at 7pm against Wilson High School. We would love to have all AVID students and their families in attendance.

Volunteers needed right away for Saturday, September 8

CHS has the opportunity to earn some much needed dollars by working the tailgater a U of O duck game. We need 26 volunteers (you will be working in pairs) to help hand out plastic bags for recycling, encourage our tailgaters to recycle and then collect bags from the tailgaters!

Thanks to Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC), groups earn $500 per game as well as money from the collected recycling (averages between $200 and $300 per game).

Game date: Saturday, September 8
Time: 11:15 till about 4:00. We circle the tailgate area once more after the majority of tailgaters move into the stadium.

We must have 20 people (as a minimum). You must be 18 years and older of age–I’d like to have 26 signed up to allow for some last minute no-shows due to emergencies. If you have student who is a senior you’d like to partner, let me know–if they are close to the 18 age limit, we can probably let them pair up with you.

Report to Autzen area at 11:15 am. I have bus passes and can get that to you so you can take the bus from downtown and not deal with traffic near the stadium.

We will divide up the tailgating areas and you will have a zone to walk and drop off additional bags and pick up as needed.

There will be two golf carts supporting our work so you do not need to carry bags very far.

We will need a couple of people to drive the carts and we may trade off during this period.

If you don’t like talking to people, we’ll pair you with someone who does!

If you have tickets to the game, you still will be “tailgating” and you can still attend the game!

We do not NEED to sort -OBRC will have two trucks and two staff in the area and they will collect our bags and deal with the sorting. Contact me ASAP by phone/text or email if you think you are interested or would like more information at:

cell phone: 541-912-3772

So many groups have benefited by working at Duck athletics events. If we have success providing this service for the U of O, we can work on other opportunities to continue fundraising at their events! But we need to come through for these first two games! This is much needed cash for our Lancer Parent Association to help purchase needed supplies in our classrooms, provide scholarships for kids unable to purchase senior graduation tickets and support other school events so PLEASE, consider volunteering.

If you’d like to work for funds to be directed to a department, activity, club or sport team, let me know and we can make arrangements.

It’s a perfect opportunity to support Churchill at a fun event and gives you the opportunity to help if you have a student who does not like having you at school events or you cannot help out during the school day!!!!!

Let’s show our community what Lancer Pride is all about! Hope you’ll join me and other Lancer Parents for the weekend!
