News you can Use:

Gates Scholarship Applications are due by Jan. 16. Gates Millennium Scholarship: 1,000 students per year are selected. Awards encompass tuition, fees, books and living expenses for the academic year. Requirements are: Must be a student of color, Be a citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States, Have a GPA of 3.3 or higher, Have demonstrated leadership abililities, Meet the eligibility criteria for a Federal Pell Grant. Yes, this is a labor intensive scholarship to apply for, but less than one month of hard work could pay more than a year’s worth of a full time job.

Juniors:

The Junior projects have started. Betsy has completed her visits to English classes to go over the requirements and deadlines. If you do not have an English class and don’t have a packet you must come to the career center and make an appointment to get your packet.

Seniors:

Graduation is coming up fast! Are you ready? Stop by the career center and make sure you’ve got all your graduation requirements met:

  1. Development of a 4 Year Education Plan and Profile including the Sophomore and Junior Career Center Projects.
  2. Completion of Community Service: 40 hours CHC, 130 hours IHS
  3. Completion of an Extended Application Project (LEAP) which challenges and helps students apply academic and career related knowledge and skills. This activity will be completed during the junior or senior year.

Parents of Seniors: Feel free to contact us any time to check your student’s status. Sorry Seniors, it had to be done.

What should you be doing for FAFSA right now? I’m glad you asked. RIGHT NOW YOU SHOULD:
Gather tax and asset documents.
Apply for a PIN (Personal ID Number) at www.pin.ed.gov
Use the FAFSA worksheet.

Seniors should complete the online FAFSA form (2013-1014) beginning in January, 2013.  Help is available! See Betsy (in the career center), Oscar or Shannon.

All seniors who already have a PIN should stop by the Career Center and let Betsy know the good news.

FAFSA Workshops are coming:  Financial Aid Directors from area colleges are going to be at Churchill to walk seniors and/or their parents through the FAFSA process. Seating is limited so you MUST PRE-REGISTER. Sign up sheets are in the career center. There is also a FAFSA Application Checklist that specifies which information you’ll need to bring.

Churchill Front Office:

  • The Churchill Front Office will be closed for Winter Break Monday, December 24-Monday, January 7.
  • (The office will be open briefly Friday, January 4, 9:00-12:00PM.)
  • The office will resume regular hours on Tuesday, January 8, 8:00AM-3:45PM.

Churchill Finance Office:

  • The Finance Office will close for Winter Break Tuesday, December 18-Monday, January 7.
  • The Finance Office will re-open on Tuesday, January 8, 8:00AM-3:00PM.

January LTD Bus Passes:

  • Students needing January LTD Bus Passes must see the Finance Office PRIOR to December 18 to order pass.
  • Students should then pick up passes in the front office on Friday, December 21 before 1PM.
  • After December 21 , LTD bus passes will not be available until Tuesday, January 8, 8AM.
