Work Study Position

A Work Study position is open at Twin Oaks Elementary. The student must be at least 16 and a junior or senior with good attendance, on track for graduation, and have reliable transportation. Turn in your resume to Mary Beth in the School-to-Career office in the STEM building by November 30th. Pay: minimum wage. Hours: during school hours, approximately 2 hrs/day. Work, get paid, and get class credit!

In the past, they have had exceptional young men and women from Churchill High School working in their kitchen and dining room and they are very proud and thankful for their work over the years. The Eugene Youth Trades Academy Applications are now available at the table in front of the School-to-Career office and in the Career Center. This is a great introduction into the trades, get high school credit, AND complete your LEAP. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. See Mary Beth in the School to Career office for more details.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test

Churchill will offer the ASVAB-Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test on December 1st at 9:30a.m. in the STEM building. Friday is a no-school day so you won’t miss classes. The test is free and open to students 16 and older. In addition to the testing, in January students will have the opportunity to meet with a certified military counselor to talk about the test results and career options. You must sign up for the test by Tuesday, November 28th in the School-to-Career office.

Movie Night

BSU & the NAACP Youth Council are hosting a student union social movie night on November 30th in the auditorium from 7-9pm. BSU welcomes all student unions to come join us. Snacks will be provided.

GSA

The transgender day of remembrance is an annual observance to honor the memory of transgender people who have lost their lives due to anti-trans violence. These attacks disproportionately affect transgender women of color. Today we remember the 25 trans individuals taken too soon in 2017 alone. GSA asks for a moment of silence to commemorate these victims and all others lost in years past.

Sports

Congratulations to the Churchill Football Team – players, coaches, and support staff! The team played great and withstood another come from behind effort by the Cougars, but we stood our ground and came out on top. Our Band, cheer team, and fans represented our school and community well by filling up the visiting section and cheering on our Lancers. Now we are headed to the state finals Saturday night at Hillsboro Stadium at 6pm. Go Lancers!

A cheer/rooter bus is available to 30 students on a first come first serve basis. The bus will leave the CHS jock lot on Saturday at 12:45pm and return at approximately 10:30pm. To be eligible you must complete a permission form with a parent’s signature and bring $5 cash, no change provided, to the front office. Permission forms are available in the front office.

Lane Community College Placement Testing

Seniors, if you are planning on attending LCC next fall, now is the time to take the placement tests in reading, sentence skills, and math. The next test is Monday, November 20th, at 3:45 in STEM 118. Bring your L number and a photo ID. If you don’t have an L number, please see Mary Beth in the STEM building.

The Eugene-Springfield Trades Academy is now accepting applications for the 2018 Trades Academy that will run for eight weeks from February through March. Please see Mary Beth in the School to Career office in the STEM building for an application and more details on how you can use this opportunity to earn high school credit and complete the LEAP graduation requirement.

Thespian Induction

Any Thespian Club members interested in being inducted into the International Thespian Society need to come to an informational meeting today in Mr. Patton’s room at lunch. If you have yet to be inducted and are involved in theater productions at Churchill in any way, whether it be acting, tech, backstage, crew, costuming, make-up, or pit orchestra, you should be at this meeting.
