Graduation at a G’Lance, 5/13

Churchill Graduating Students and Families,

Don’t forget to check our website for the most current graduation information at

The Graduation Checklist

The Graduation Checklist is updated every Friday and posted on the graduation website at and in the front office, or click HERE

How to Use the Checklist

To protect student privacy, the checklist is published with student numbers, rather than names. You can find your student number on your most recent report card. In ParentVUE or StudentVUE, go to the Report Card tab and click the link that says “Click here to view report card […].”

A check mark means that your requirements for that column are complete. Incomplete requirements will have a note indicating who can help you finalize that requirement.

Seating and Walking Partner Sign Up is Open!

  • Seating and Walking Partner Slips will be available in my office during student lunch only.
  • All graduating students who are interested in participating in the graduation ceremony must sign up for seating.
  • You are not required to have a walking partner.
  • You must be cleared to graduate; walking partners must both be cleared to graduate.
  • Submitted slips will be drawn and seating will be assigned at random. Exceptions: Performers and their walking partners will be seated in the front row or where they can easily access the front of the stage. Special accommodations will be made where appropriate.

Ticket Distribution is Open!

  • You must be cleared to graduate. Make sure you are cleared on the checklist (check marks in every column) before picking up your tickets.
  • Tickets are free.
  • Distribution is in my office during student lunch only. (Call or email me if you cannot come during student lunch.)
  • Six tickets will be reserved for each graduating student. Two in the orchestra section, and the remaining four in the orchestra or mezzanine as available. Students may request additional tickets until they are sold out, but students requesting more than 14 total tickets must bring a note from a parent.
  • The Hult Center requires a ticket for every person who enters the concert hall, including infants.
  • Any tickets remaining in the pool of reserved tickets will be released for distribution at graduation rehearsal and in the Hult Center lobby half an hour before the ceremony begins.

Cap and Gown Pick Up May 22

Pre-ordered caps and gowns will be distributed on May 22 from 10:00 a.m. through the end of lunch in the Student Lounge. If you have not ordered a cap and gown, please contact Miners Graduate Services immediately at 541-689-4588 or to place your order.

Rules for Cap Decorations and How to Wear Your Cap and Gown

Churchill allows graduates to express themselves by decorating their caps for graduation. All cap decorations must be school-appropriate and 2-dimensional. Nothing should stick up on top or hang down below the mortarboard. The mortarboard should be parallel to the ground.

Graduation gowns must be worn correctly, with fronts fully zipped over school-appropriate clothing. Administrators may check under gowns if they suspect inappropriate dress or items that do not belong on the graduation stage, such as noisemakers, beach balls, or other props.

Honor cords, stoles, medals, and pins are provided through the school and must be approved by the school administration. Culturally-significant regalia is permitted. Culturally-significant regalia includes ceremonial accessories or attire that are significant to the graduate’s culture as a whole and appropriate to the culture’s traditional rites of passage. This does not include items that are of personal significance to the graduate. School-appropriate jewelry and items of personal significance may be worn in a way that does not detract from the uniform appearance of the cap and gown.

Example pictures of appropriate and inappropriate graduation dress and cap decorations are included in the Graduation Information Night Presentation on the Graduation webpage.

Graduation Walk May 24

The 3rd annual Churchill Graduation Walk is scheduled for May 24. Seniors will wear their caps and gowns and visit Twin Oaks, McCornack, and Chavez Elementary Schools, parading through the schools and showing off their Lancer PRIDE. The bus will load at 8:30 a.m. and return to CHS by 11:45 a.m. See Kevin Summerfield if you are interested in participating. There are a limited number of seats on the bus, so get your field trip form in early.

To participate, seniors must:

  1. complete a field trip form and submit it to Kevin Summerfield.
  2. travel with the rest of the group on the scheduled bus (no self-transport).
