Open House!
Churchill High School is hosting an Open House on
Tuesday, October 10th beginning at 6:00pm. Our goal is to increase
the number of parents involved in the life of our school. We expect
this to be one of the most important events of the year and we
encourage all parents to attend. This is an event for parents,
not students.
The evening begins with time to pick up your student(s)
schedule and a map from 6:00-6:30pm and then follow an abbreviated
schedule for all 8 class periods. Each class will meet for 12
minutes, with 5 minutes of travel time between classes. Teachers
will discuss their courses and answer questions about course content
and procedures. Please note that Open House is not intended to
address questions about individual students; it is about curriculum.
Call or email your student’s counselor or teacher if you
have questions or concerns about your child and/or grades. A flyer
with teacher and other important staff member contacts is enclosed
in this newsletter. The Churchill staff is looking forward to
seeing you at our Open House!
Progress Reports
During the week of October 9th, parents will receive
progress reports for students who are receiving below a C grade,
or are not doing as well as would be expected. In addition, some
students will receive positive progress reports, at the discretion
of the teacher. There will be an early release of students on
Friday, October 6th, in order for our staff to prepare these progress
reports. We encourage parents to call or email their student’s
teacher(s) if they have any concerns after the progress reports
come home. Our staff wants to offer help or assist with parents
who are concerned about their student’s academic progress.
Some of the possible ways that we can help are:
1. Parents may call or email our Student Personnel
Office to set up an appointment with a counselor or a teacher
(email addresses and phone numbers are included as an insert in
this newsletter). The student should be involved in this meeting.
At the meeting, the teacher and/or counselor will discuss what
needs to happen to improve grades.
2. Parents should encourage students to come before
school, during office hours and instructional access time, or
after school to check with a teacher for help on an individual
basis.
3. We have Weekly Progress Reports available for
students to circulate to their teachers. Teachers sign to indicate
if assignments are complete, and if not, what those assignments
are. Contact the Student Personnel Office to begin this type of
reporting home.
4. Remember to monitor your student’s planner.
All Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will take part
in career and college preparatory testing on Wednesday, October
18th. All Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors should be at school no
later than 8:00am with two #2 pencils, a calculator and their CHS
ID card. Classes will be held after testing is completed. Seniors
report to school at 12:15. For more information, see the Career
Center Section.
