Alternative
High School
The
alternative program at Churchill, also known as CAHS, offers extensive opportunities
for independent study and non-traditional methods for completing high school
graduation requirements. The program is aimed primarily at students who have
not experienced success in a traditional classroom setting. Instruction is largely
individualized and students are encouraged and expected to take responsibility
for their own learning and discipline. The alternative school provides a rigorous
academic program coupled with experiences that promote emotional and social
growth. A strong school-to-work transition program allows students to explore
career opportunities while they earn credit toward a high school diploma. Teachers
at CAHS assume the extended roles of counselor, mentor, confidant and friend.
Teachers and students work together to create a school setting where each feels
a sense of belonging and ownership. A low student-to-teacher ratio allows for
personal attention, and recognition of student's different learning styles and
unique needs in and out of the classroom.
The goals of Churchill Alternative High School (CAHS) are quite simple:
- Re-engage students who have not previously found success and meaning in
their high school experience.
- Provide an opportunity for students to be a part of an intimate and dynamic
learning community.
- Develop and nurture self-confidence, positive thinking and a love of learning.

- Create healthy and genuine relationships between all school members.
- Prepare students for life and learning beyond high school.
