Lesson 1: CHS Login (Intro)
When a lot of different people use the same
computer, it is important to tell who is using
the machine so:
- individual preferences are separated.
- users are accountable for their use of the
machine.
- files are safely stored where others cannot
access them.
To do this, you receive a username (also
called a User Name, Login, or Account Name) and a
password. The username identifies who you are on
the system. Your teachers, friends, and
classmates may know your username. The password,
however, is a way to prove you are YOU and should
NEVER be shared with anyone.
Your task in Lesson 1 will be to read about what you can and cannot do when you use computers at CHS. This is the policy that holds you accountable for your use of computers. In future lessons, you will learn how to safely store your files.
Note:
At Churchill, your username and password should
ALWAYS be entered lower case. Sometimes, it may
not matter, but lower case always works, while
UPPERCASE or MixedCase can cause your login to
fail.
