COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES
Churchill High School is proud to offer a variety of college credit
options for students at Churchill. Students interested in any of
the following programs should see their counselor for more information.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) is a program of college level courses and
exams that gives students the opportunity to get ahead by earning
credit, advanced placement, or both for college while they are still
in high school. There are many benefits for students who take AP
courses—studying interesting and challenging things, discovering
new interests and getting a head start on their future.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Program
Churchill International High School is a member of the International
Baccalaureate (IB) program—a worldwide affiliation of schools
promoting international standards of achievement. All the coursework
of IHS juniors and seniors meets these requirements for the IB.
IHS students may choose to pursue the full IB diploma, with exams
in six subjects, or earn certificates in any of twelve areas of
study. The IB diploma and the certificates can earn students college
credits in universities and colleges all over the world.
Duck Link
The University of Oregon offers an opportunity for students in District
4J to enroll in UO courses at reduced rates. Students interested
in enrolling must meet the following criteria:
- Have exhausted all available District offerings in a particular
subject area;
- Have outstanding academic performance in this subject area;
- Demonstrate maturity and self-sufficiency.
College Now Program
College Now courses are designed for students who wish to earn college
credit, but do not desire to take AP level courses. Students may
earn college credits through Lane Community College, as part of
the College Now Program. These credits are transferable to most
universities as well. Students may choose to take these classes
and not pay for college credit as well. These classes will be offered
FREE to Churchill students during the 2005-06 school year, however
students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks for all College
Now classes.
Certificate of Advanced Mastery/Alternative Learning Opportunity
Pathway (CAM/ALOP)
CAM/ALOP provides high school students in the Lane Community College
service district with learning experiences which will enhance their
opportunities in areas that are unavailable, or that they have exhausted
at their home high school. Students can earn college credit for
classes taken through CAM/ALOP.
Tech Prep
Churchill High School has an agreement with Lane Community College,
wherein Tech Prep courses can be taken as part of LCC’s many
technical programs. If the courses are completed in high school
with a grade of C or better (some courses may specify a grade higher
than C), they will be counted as part of the completion of the Lane
program. Courses won’t have to be repeated when students graduate
from high school and continue their studies at LCC.
Please see Special Course Offerings in the last section
of this handbook for other college and dual credit classes.
