FTP Access

File Access Away From Churchill


You can use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to access your files from anywhere. Free Mac and PC programs are available. (You must use your Churchill password to access links when you are not at Churchill.)

PC Directions (Windows 98):

 

Step 1: Download FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Software

Starting at Churchill's Home Page follow these links.

Note: If you are reading these from the computer you are trying to access Gwen from, then you can choose this link to download the software.

Students -> Downloads

Under Core Utilities on the downloads page, find "Type FTP".

Click ws.ftp_le.exe

Enter your Churchill username and password

Choose Save this program to disk, and choose to save the file on the desktop.

 

Step 2: Installling WS-FTP LE

Double Click ws-ftp_le.exe from your desktop

Answer the questions in the prompts.

I am (a student) ->Next

I will use this..-> Next

Purpose...(for school) -> Next

Read and Accept the license agreement.

Choose OK

Choose OK again

You should see a successful installation

Choose OK

You can now delete the desktop file ws-ftp_le.exe

 

Step 3: Opening WS-FTP_LE

From the Start Menu Choose

Programs -> Ws-FTP -> WS-FTP95_LE

 

Step 4: Setting up WS-FTP_LE

The program will now ask for the session properties.

Choose New

Enter the following information:

Profile Name: Gwen
Host Name/Address: gwen.chs.lane.edu
Host Type: Automatic Type
User ID: "put your Churchill username here"
Password: Leave this filed blank
Account: Leave this filed blank
Comment: Leave this filed blank

Choose OK

Now enter your Churchill password

Choose OK

 

Step 5: Using WS-FTP_LE

You will now see two windows. The left window is you local machine (the computer you are using). The right window is your file space on Gwen. To move files there are 3 impotant things to check.

  1. On the Local System side of the window (left), choose/navigate using the green arrow to the file that you have saved on your computer.Select that file by clicking once.
  2. On the Remote System side of the window (right), choose/navigate the folder on Gwen in which you would like to transfer your file.
  3. Click the the arrow pointing to the right to move that file to Gwen.

You should see a new copy show up on thr Remote System window.
