Library:

Winter break is a great time to read.  Would you enjoy a true story, or a book on a certain topic?  The library has just received new non-fiction books such as Wild, the story of Cheryl Strayed’s trek on the Pacific Coast Trail.  Orange is the New Black, Our America: A Hispanic History of the United States, The Port Chicago 50 – Disaster, Mutiny, and the Fight for Civil Rights, For the Good of Mankind? — The Shameful History of Human Medical Experimentation.  Books checked out now are not due until January 5th. Come find something good to read.

Wise:

Looking to get strong, make friends, and try something different?  Eugene’s 8th through 12th graders can join South Eugene Rowing Club for winter cross training.  Drop by South Eugene High School’s IHS wing weekdays at 3:45pm to take part in core, strength, cardio, and rowing machine work-outs.  After school water practices at Dexter Lake begin in late February, but now is the time to try this awesome sport for free.  More information available at southeugenerowingclub.org.

Rowing Club:

Looking to get strong, make friends, and try something different?  Eugene’s 8th through 12th graders can join South Eugene Rowing Club for winter cross training.  Drop by South Eugene High School’s IHS wing weekdays at 3:45pm to take part in core, strength, cardio, and rowing machine work-outs.  After school water practices at Dexter Lake begin in late February, but now is the time to try this awesome sport for free.  More information available at southeugenerowingclub.org.

Anne of Green Gables:

“Anne of Green Gables” had a terrific opening last night!  There is no performance tonight…. Go Ducks!  Please check us out tomorrow at 7:30pm.  Just $3.00 for students.  This show is an hour long, so you have time for some hot chocolate after an awesome night of heart warming story-telling.  Starring Kassidy Benson, Dominic Bernardo, Eva McADam, Kaitlin Wieder, Tomarrow Taylor and Pernille Grage – This is a holiday treat not to miss!

Library:

The library just received a shipment of exciting new books.  Some titles we have available include: Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan, Maze Runner, If I stay, and The Fault in Our Stars.  Any books checked out now are not due until after winter break, so come get something good to read.

La biblioteca acaba de recibir un envío de nuevas e interesantes libros. Attention Seniors: LCC placement testing for reading and writing will be Wednesday morning, December 10th at 8:00am.  Please sign up in front of the School-to-Careers office in the STEM building or in the College and Career Center. On the day of the test, bring your L# and a photo ID.

Students interested in volunteering at Kennedy Middle School during Trimester 2 need to fill out an application prior to going up to Kennedy.  Applications are available from the School-to-Careers office in the STEM building, the College and Career Center, or your counselor.  Applications are due today.

Drivers Ed:

Winter Term Driver Education Registration has begun.  Churchill class 203 starts January 7th and will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 9:00pm.  The cost is $275.00.  You can pick up schedules and registration forms in the front office. School-to-Careers:

There will be a WISE club meeting today at lunch in the STEM Conference room.   All are welcome.

Seniors interested in applying for the 4j-ACTS and have questions can meet in the STEM Conference room at lunch for a brief overview of the program and a question and answer period.

University representatives will be visiting Churchill tonight from 5:30 to 8:30am to share with Latino students and families the benefits of and pathways to college.  Presentations will be in both Spanish and English. Dinner provided from 5:30 to 6:15pm.  Workshop sessions from 6:15 to 8:00pm.

Band:

Special congratulations to Victoria Kaiser for being selected to the “Practice Honors Ensemble” Victoria will be performing in an honor Band in Brisbane Australia next October.  She was selected from 600 students.

College and Career Center:

The College and Career Center is hosting a Financial Aid and Scholarship information night tomorrow night at 6:30pm in the College and Career Center.

GSA:

There will be a GSA Meeting today at lunch in room F-49.

4j-ACTS Information Session

4j-ACTS Information Session

There will be an information session for eligible seniors and their parents for the 4j-Advanced Career Technical Sponsorship beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, in room F-36. This session will wrap up before Financial Aid Night begins. The 4j-ACT Sponsorship provides for one year or 36 credits at Lane Community College. Students must have taken at least 1.0 credits in a pathway program and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply. Application packets will be available in the School-to-Careers office beginning Thursday, December 4. All materials are due Thursday, January 8 th , 4 p.m.

SAT Testing

The next SAT test is Saturday, December 6th . Report to Churchill’s main gate at 7:45 a.m. Bring two No. 2 pencils ( no mechanical pencils allowed) and a calculator with extra batteries, and snacks to keep up your energy. The next test will be Saturday, January 24th. Please register at www.collegeboard.com, click on SAT in the left column.

Calling all aspiring scientists, engineers, doctors, and technology whizzes!

The Application period is open on the Apprenticeships for Science & Engineering website: www.saturdayacademy.org/ASE . Students in grades 9-11 who are interested in careers in science, medicine, engineering or technology should come to the Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) summer internship information session in the STEM building on Wednesday, January 28th at 7 pm. ASE matches scientists, engineers and technology innovators with smart students like you for eight week internships over the summer. ASE is a great way to improve your college application, and students can earn high school credit and a $1,000 stipend! Contact Mary Beth in the School-to-Careers office in STEM building.
