Choir Fundraising Opportunity

Hello Choir families! We have just under a month of summer left, but it’s time to start preparing for the U of O Football season! The first game is Saturday, September 3rd. BEFORE we go back to school. Volunteers would need to be at Autzen by 10:30am.

Every year, the U of O Athletic Department hires us to run their Handicap Accessible tram service. In return for their time, each adult volunteer earns $65 to be credited directly to their student’s trip/uniform account. This year the choir and band is traveling to San Francisco, so this is a fun and easy way to raise money. Plus, you get to watch the game from field level!

Here is what’s involved…

Arrive 3.5 hours prior to kick off.
Work maybe 10 to 15min. into the first quarter.
During the down time you can watch the game from the East side tunnel (standing only). There is also a little break room just off this tunnel to sit, rest, and eat.
Work will resume during 4th quarter with 10 min left on the clock. We work for about 30 minutes.
You get to see the game for FREE, you get a FREE shuttle pass, and you get a FREE bottle of water!!

Please email Megan at if you can work the Sept. 3rd game and/or future games.

Homeward Bound

Last school year, Churchill’s Concert Choir and Downing Street Singers learned a custom arrangement of the folk piece, Homeward Bound, that we later recorded audio and video in both a studio and our choir room. The schools involved with this collaboration were Churchill, North Eugene, and Lake Oswego High Schools in collaboration with local YouTube star, Peter Hollens. There is also a special story at the end that Peter tells about a young girl from Lake Oswego who lost her life this year, and this song just so happened to be her favorite.

Club Sports Notice 8/1/2016

Churchill Families,

Eugene Public Schools encourages student involvement in school- and club-sponsored activities. In addition to traditional school athletic programs, school clubs, and club sports allow students to broaden educational experiences in the areas of physical fitness, social development, and skill enhancement.

For purposes of student safety, school activities are separated into school-sponsored and community-sponsored categories. Student participation in community-sponsored activities is not covered by district insurance and often not staffed by district employees. As such, Churchill High School and 4J maintain little control over community-sponsored activities including supervision, and purchasing. In recent years, relationships between school sponsored and community sponsored have become less clear. Churchill High School seeks to reestablish expectations related to school and community activities.

Over the 2016-2017 academic year, Churchill High School will be transitioning to a clearer school-sponsored/community sponsored model. We seek to achieve substantial compliance with a school-sponsored/community-sponsored process by Fall of 2017. This shift is in an effort to better inform parents, students, and the community regarding the relationship between Churchill High School and its activities.

Please see the “School and Community Sponsored Essentials Guide.” Should you have specific questions regarding the status of your child’s activity, please contact your Athletic Director.

Best Regards,

Kelly Bokn
