Committee Vacancies for Parents
We will be voting on two of our very important parent representative
positions at the next Booster/Parent Council meeting on Monday,
October 2nd. One of our Site Council parent representatives needed
to resign for personal reasons, and we have an opening on the Operations
Group to fill. Churchill's Operations Group meets weekly to discuss
“nut and bolts” issues regarding the operation of the
school. All CHS parents are invited to attend the October 2nd Booster/Parent
Council meeting to vote on these positions.
Booster Club News
The Churchill United Booster Club held their first meeting of the
new school year on Monday, September 11th. Booster Executive Board
members for the 2006-07 school year include: President Mike Nelson,
Vice President Kris Bofto, Secretary Cheri Harrison, Treasurer/Membership
Director Jim Nielsen, Site Council Representative Marylu Bowers,
Principal Dennis Biggerstaff, Athletic Director Tim Carmichael,
and Volunteer Coordinator Debbie Vobora.
Boosters sponsored a Back-to-School BBQ on September 8th that was
a big success. We would like to thank everyone who attended and
helped to make this a great evening. Our goal is to make this a
fun, annual event promoting all school teams and clubs and fostering
Lancer pride.
The new Booster membership/fundraising program is up and running.
The September meeting provided those in attendance with hands on
opportunity to visit the new website www.shoplancer.com. This year,
your Booster membership fee includes a Mall Pass membership. The
Mall Pass is an online shopping mall including 250 stores, with
more stores added every day. The store list includes Target, Nordstrom,
Wal-Mart, Hallmark, Nokia, iTunes, Eastbay, and many more. When
you shop online at these stores using your Mall Pass membership,
CHS receives a percentage of the sale, donated by the store! It
is an easy, convenient, wonderful way to support CHS! Just contact
a member of the Booster Club to learn how to get started with this
exciting program or fill out the application in the margin and mail
it to the Churchill High School Booster Club. Funds raised with
this program will support capital improvement projects at CHS.
The Churchill Site Council and Operations Group each currently
have one opening for a parent representative. These positions are
voted on by CHS parents at the Booster meeting. If you are interested
in applying, please pick up an application in the school office.
For more information regarding these positions, contact a Booster
Executive Board member or stop by the school office. See the article
below...
This year the Booster Club meetings will have a new format. In
addition to delivering the latest news regarding Churchill activities,
each meeting will feature a guest speaker. The October Booster meeting
will feature a teacher new to Churchill, Al Villaneuva. Mr. Villaneuva
teaches Choir, Drama and in the Arts & Communication SLC. All
parents are invited to join the Boosters for this informative, entertaining
meeting. We look forward to seeing you there!
CHS Students Ride LTD Free
CHS students should have received their permanent 06-07 ASB cards.
LTD ride stickers are part of the ASB card, allowing students to
ride the LTD bus system for free during the school year (through
June). If you have questions or concerns regarding this, please
contact the office.
New Fundraising/Membership Project
Supporting extracurricular programs and becoming a Booster member
at CHS just got easier! Just because it’s summer, the needs
of kids don’t go away.
A new fundraising approach was just what we were looking for to
really energize our parents and support our students. This gives
you the ability to purchase an online membership at the Lancer Pride
website and become a voting member of Churchill Boosters for only
$25 per year and 50% of your membership is contributed back to the
Churchill Boosters.
As a community, we know there are many shortfalls in the education
system, just to meet the needs of kids. Extracurricular programs
are just one of those needs, but it is still an important part of
well-rounded development for young people. This new approach is
a way that local business owners and professionals can show their
support.
Lancer Pride, which will be located at www.shoplancer.com, begins
August 7, 2006. This is a web-based program, developed by The Pass
Group of Corvallis, that simplifies fundraising for school programs
and helps to keep the focus on the kids.
Local business owners and professionals can show their support
with an annual advertising contract linking their business site
to the Lancer Pride website. Each advertising contract will produce
a donation of 70% or more to local schools. If you are a business
owner, or know one, please contact us for this exciting opportunity
to advertise AND support CHS students.
In addition, the Lancer Pride website will support an online Shopping
Mall of over 200 nationally recognized stores where members can
make purchases and have 2.5% to 10% of each purchase donated to
CHS programs. Check it out!

Student & Visitor Parking
Junior and Senior students are allowed to park on
campus after purchasing a parking hang tag. Seniors can park in
ANY lot, in any legal, non-RESERVED parking space, including the
Senior lot to the south of the school. Juniors can park in any lot
EXCEPT the South Senior lot, in any legal, non-RESERVED parking
space. Sophomores are not permitted to park on campus.
Visitors are asked to park in the VISITORS parking
area near the main entrance in the North front lot and come to the
office to obtain a parking pass for your vehicle.
Any vehicle parked in a RESERVED, VISITOR, handicap
or non-legal parking space without the proper permit will be ticketed
(first offense), booted (second offense) and then towed at the owner’s
expense ("strike 3"). Tickets and boot fees are paid in
the Finance Office (7:30am-4:00pm)
Parking hang tags are only $30 this year. Because
these hang tags can be transferred between cars, please remind your
student that even though they have purchased a hang tag, it needs
to be in the vehicle they are parking on campus and visible. They
can get a ticket if they forget to move it to the vehicle they are
driving for the day, or if they forget to post it where it's visible.
Students who have a current parking hang tag have
read the CHS Parking Contract and signed it, stating they understand
and agree to abide by the parking rules and regulations set forth
in the contract, and acknowledge that if they park illegally, they
will be ticketed, booted or towed at their expense. We have had
over 50 tickets handed out during the first three weeks of school,
to registered CHS students, and three boots have been placed on
vehicles.
Placement of a boot on a vehicle is the second parking
offense. If your student gets a boot on his/her vehicle, they should
not drive it and they need to come and see someone in the front
office as soon as possible (7:30am-4:00pm). They will need to pay
the $30 boot removal, and any unpaid prior tickets they have received,
before the boot will be removed from their vehicle.
Students who continue to park illegally after receiving
a boot will have their vehicle towed. If after receiving tickets,
a boot and being towed, parking privileges may also be revoked by
the school.
Bus Zone/South Lot Congestion
We realize the parking and traffic “ergonomics” of
CHS are less than optimal, however due to increased traffic and
congestion in the front driveway, there is a Bus Loading Zone Only
area in the front of the school. This marked area must be left clear
for school and city buses to load and unload kids. When you drop
off or pick up your student(s), please do not park or stop in this
Bus Loading Zone.
Due to congestion, we are also requesting parents not drop off
student(s) in the south (Senior) parking lot (between the softball
field/tennis courts and the school). There are so many vehicles
trying to maneuver and find parking spots there in the morning that
it has become very dangerous for drivers, as well as staff and students
trying to enter the building. We would appreciate it if you would
drop off your student(s) in the front of the school, to the North
or South of the Bus Loading Zone. Thank you for your assistance.
Parent Coffees
Principal Dennis Biggerstaff will be scheduling Parent Coffees
with all Freshman parents this Fall. The coffees will be scheduled
in small groups Wednesday mornings through October. Parents will
receive a postcard invitation for the date of your coffee. If you
cannot make the coffee and would like to be rescheduled, please
call the office.
United Way Contributions
This year, the United Way and the Eugene Education Fund are working
together to offer you new ways to give back to your community. As
a part of your United Way gift, you can designate, through therestricted
funds, a gift to the Eugene Education Fund and the specific school
program that you wish to support. By choosing to designate your
restricted gift to Churchill High School, you can offer extra educational
opportunities to our students.
