September Late Starts
Our second late start of the month, Wednesday, September 29th,
will be
for Curriculum Areas to meet to discuss department goals.
Pregame Social - Friday, October 1st
There will be a pregame staff social at Abby's Pizza next Friday,
October 1st at 5:30pm. This is a chance for us to all get together,
visit, talk about our week's trials and tribulations, and relax
before
the home football game against Willamette. We hope to see you all
there!
Licensed Teacher Evaluation Conferences
I need to meet with the certified staff members in groups (by prep
period) to review the evaluation system and information. Please
plan
on attending one of the following meetings. These will be held
in my
office (or the staff room if too crowded). Just come down at the
beginning of your prep on the appropriate day. Should only take
a few
minutes if everyone is on time. This is important, so please put
this
on your calendar. Thanks!

Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are October 6th at 8:00am in the Cafeteria. Please
remind students of retakes in Monday and Tuesday classes. Staff
members who were not able to have their photos taken at registration
can get them taken during this retake.
Personal Reimbursements
Whenever possible, it is always preferable to use a purchase order
when securing supplies or services. This takes a little more advanced
planning, but it is certainly preferred by our auditors. If you
frequently need to pay up front and get reimbursed, please see
me.
Attendance
Just a reminder that class attendance needs to be entered on a
daily
basis, by 3:30pm. There are several teachers who have not entered
attendance into ESIS yet this school year. Attendance is a legal
document and is used in student disciplines, IEP meetings, etc.
If you
missed the training, please check with Daire so she can get you
up to
speed on ESIS. If you have questions, see me.
Field Trip/Class Excuse Notices
Just a reminder that notices about field trips and class excuses
MUST
be emailed to staff PRIOR to the class day before the field trip
absence. For example, if the absence will happen on Wednesday (a
blue
day), the email notice of the field trip or class excuse should
be
received by the teacher before Monday (a blue day). If you have
questions, see me.
November Newsletter
If you have articles you want to get in the November newsletter,
please email them to Karla by Monday, October 11th.
Freshmen Elections
The Freshmen election petitions process began this week. The actual
election will be held during the last :20 minutes of 6th period
next
Tuesday, September 28th.
State Inservice Day - Friday, October 8th
Friday, October 8th is a staff inservice day - a contract day for
certified staff. I encourage all of you to attend a conference
or
workshop related to your field and/or assignment. Lists of events
are
online and I have placed copies in the staff room. If you have
questions, see me.
Open House
Our Open House will take place on Tuesday, October 12th, from 6:30pm
to 9:00pm. I believe this will be a great opportunity to showcase
the
excellent programs we have at Churchill High School. We will follow
the same schedule and set up as last year. I encourage people to
distribute copies of course descriptions and to have student work
on
display in the classroom. Some of these little things give parents
clear messages about the kind of program that we have. If there's
anything that needs to be done in your classroom to help it to
look
better or other maintenance/custodial needs, please send Keith,
or
Buddy an email so that we can get it done prior to open house.
We will also have a staff debrief across the street at Koho
immediately following the Open House.
There will also be a special late, late start the following Wednesday,
October 13th, for staff to recoop, with a staff meeting at 10:00
that
morning.
Student Aides
Just a reminder... Student aides or teacher assistants should not,
under any circumstances, be entering grades for teachers or accessing
the grade book. I know that is a tempting practice and I am aware
that
we have some very responsible student aides. However, to allow
students to access your grade book is actually a violation of student
records laws and state guidelines. If you have your aides doing
this
type of work, please discontinue that practice and find other ways
for
them to contribute. Teachers also need to enter their own attendance
information as this is also protected/sensitive information. If
you
have questions, see me.
Supplies
If you are in need of supplies, don't forget to EMAIL Darcey
(huelsman).
Staff Development Funds
Each year, Curriculum Council allocates funds for staff development
requests from teachers. Karla has the forms to be used for making
staff development requests. These forms should be filled out and
returned to your Curriculum Council Representative. Curriculum
Council
will make a decision on these requests at its September 29th meeting.
If you have any questions about how to access these funds, please
let
me know or talk with your Curriculum Council Representative.
Staff Dues
Staff dues are $10 per year. This fund is used for birthday cards
and
to send flowers to staff members who have a death in the family,
etc.
Please pay your staff dues to Janette in the Finance office.
New CHS Staff Email Address
We have a new CHS staff email distribution list - chsstaff. The
listserve church_staf is no longer "in service".
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
