Members Present – Cindy Sainz, Hareem Park, Don Cataldo,
Theresa Hilkey, Dennis Biggerstaff
I. Minutes
- Cindy read minutes from 1/10 meeting. Accepted by
group. Students of the Month breakfast went will this morning.
We will try to invite teachers who nominated as well as parents
in the future.
II. Leadership
- An I.H.S., Sarah Johnson, student proposes “hug
day.” Group suggested this is a great idea, but there are
students who would be offended. We suggested another theme, such
as “Random acts of Kindness Day.”
- Key Club wants to have a Valentine’s Day activity; buy a bag of chocolates
and they will deliver. Cindy suggested that deliveries will be limited to second
period….during a 15 minute period of time. Mr. Cataldo suggested
the last 20 minutes of the period. That is February 14.
- Monday, March 7, students want to have a Mr. Lancer dodge ball
game vs. North. This would be at 7 p.m.
III. Old Business
IV.New Business
- Cindy asked Hareem to take proposal back to Leadership from Geography
Club to put on a fundraiser for AIDS education and benefit. This
would be to sell root-beer floats during National AIDS week, February
7-11. This is also Winter Fest Week, so we approved. Cindy will
approve any information or flyers to be distributed. We discussed
making the Student Lounge very nice for that week. Needs more decorations.
V.Open
- Some concern that staff meetings start late and run over. Need
to have food delivered late. We need to make a commitment to
start at 8:00. Wes did not have enough time to finish his announcements.
Dennis and Don vow to start meetings at 8:00 sharp.
- Suggestion that last day of school be a white day because we
start and end on a red day. The feeling was that this would not
work
well with our focus on final exams and making certain that we
have an orderly end to the school year.
- Reminder to teachers who are working on long copy jobs in the
office to use the library machines.
- Suggestion for new assembly schedule that does not put a pep
assembly just before second period.
This disrupts 2nd or 6th period classes. We will discuss options
under “Old Business” at next meeting.
