Business:
- APISU – wanted to use aerobics room or
some other space, to practice for a performance to present
at an assembly. Proposal
is to do this in the gym, February 17 or 18. This could be
during lunch or on an assembly schedule. This would need
to be done
before the Asian Celebration. The performance would include
martial arts, Lion dancing. After discussion, it was decided
to go with
a 55-minute assembly schedule on February 17, a Blue day. This
would take place in the gym. They would also sell food during
Winter Fest.
- Geography Club – asking to do a fundraiser
for HIV alliance, as approved at the last meeting. There will
be an information
table and they will sell floats and possibly other treats during
the week at lunchtime.
Reminder that we have a late start on February 2nd for a staff
development session.
Minutes from 1/19 Meeting:
- Read by Dennis & approved. Some
concern expressed about the Valentine Day chocolate activity.
We will go ahead as approved, but look at this more carefully
next year.
Leadership:
- February 16, there will be a North, Sheldon,
South, Churchill meeting of Leadership students to discuss
tsunami relief
and community service. This will take place at 7:30 a.m. at
North. One proposal for the Tsunami relief fund is to hold
a concert
with food in Alton Baker Park at the amphitheater in May. They
would also sell Tsunami bracelets. Key Club received an award
from United Way and they would like to place the plaque in
a prominent place in the building.
Old Business:
- We discussed the possibility of changing the
assembly schedule to move assemblies to a different time of
day. Dennis will bring choice to the next meeting for the discussion
to continue when all members are present.
Open:
- Corey -- BSU would be interested in presenting
facts about Black History during February, and to stage an
assembly around "The
Beauty of Blackness.” Various options for dates were
discussed. This will be discussed under “Old Business” next
week.
- Cindy brought up the parking situation again. Sophomores
are parking when they do not have passes. We could make
a general
announcement to remind sophomores that they are not allowed
to park on campus; more tickets will be issues. Hareem
suggested that some passes are also being copied.
- Some concern about administrators and counselors dropping
students from classes at this point in the semester. Cindy
reported that
happens only rarely. This often happens though SST, so Cindy
will bring this up to improve communication. Students should
not be dropping without a drop slip, but sometimes students
just stop going to a class. Counselors and administrators
are certainly
open to discussing this when anyone has a concern.
- Reminder to teachers to nominate for the New Improved Student-of-the-Month
programs (forms are in your box).
