Relay for Life Event at CHS
- Betsy presented Key Club’s proposal to have a CHS Relay
for Life event (cancer support organization) from 2:00-10:00pm
on Friday, May 20th. This would include a youth relay, awards,
games & competitions and dinner? Their mission is to generate
community spirit at Churchill, create awareness of health risks,
encourage physical fitness and raise money for cancer research.
The overall goal is to have clubs, sports teams, teachers and
classes create Relay for Life teams. These teams would develop
their own identity and activities to raise money and awareness
for Relay for Life. Discussion centered around how to plan it
logistically and include supervision. We suggested using a :40
assembly schedule. We approved their moving forward with the planning
of this.
Minutes
- Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed.
Leadership
- Handprint Murals: It was suggested that the person printing
could also date/initial their print. This will be happening Friday
after school.
- Pep Assembly: March 11th was requested for Mr. Lancer and Winter
Sports (end of season) pep assembly. This was discussed, as to
what sports would still be going on. Hareem will check into some
other dates and get back to the group.
- Building Calendar: There have been scheduling conflicts between
groups practicing and otherwise using the facilities in the last
few weeks (actually longer than that, but…). Staff, advisors,
and coaches need to remember that facility scheduling is on a
first-come, first-serve basis. Please see your Staff Bulletin
for the new process. If it’s not on highschoolsports.net,
it’s not on the schedule.
- Event Sign: Seniors are contemplating purchasing an inside event
readerboard, near the student lounge, with some extra money as
a senior gift to the school. This is still being discussed. The
sign they are looking at is $7K. The Siuslaw Bank sponsored outdoor
readerboard that was brought up a year or two ago was surfaced
and Joe said it would try to look into it.
Old Business
- Revising Assembly Schedules: Dennis presented new, revised assembly
schedules. These will be voted on at the Staff Meeting.
- Parking: Special Parking spots for Visitors and IHS teachers
was discussed and approved. There will be more discussion about
this.
New Business
- New dates added in Operations: These will be part of Staff Bulletins.
Please remember to read your Staff Bulletins! There is important
information you all need to know about!
- Hallways: The noise level and student loitering in the hallways
is increasingly disruptive during classes. It was suggested that
we paint lines on the floor, or have SOME visual that reminds
kids that they cannot be in the hallways (except Student Lounge)
hanging out and being loud during classes. They should be in the
Student Lounge, Library, outside, etc. and the possibility of
having administrators out reminding/training kids that they can’t
hang out where they are making disruptive noise. Spring/now should
be a good time to start working on it as more are outside anyway.
Dennis and Cindy will attend leadership to discuss further.
Open
- Process Advocate
There have been several comments on the attendance appeal process
and why there is much missing information (reasons, missing signatures,
etc.). We need to discuss the entire policy and get back into
the “legal” realm.
- Class Disruptions
It was brought up that there seems to be a lot of disruptions
so far this semester (Blue Days). We should work together as a
group, and a staff, to help keep educational time disruptions
to a minimum.
- Pledge of Allegiance
We have somehow “dropped” the pledge of allegiance
from the Monday daily announcements? We will make sure this gets
picked back up.
