Return to Minutes Index
Members present:
Joe Cavanaugh, Karla Nelson, Lynne Givens, Corey Chambers,
Kelly Dahlgren, Cindy Sainz, Tom Horn, Dennis Biggerstaff,
Kelsey Palmen. Grieg Thompson stopped by.
Minutes:
- approved from 1/4/06. We had no official meeting
last week.
Leadership:
- Sheldon Leadership visited last Thursday. Their
Leadership students were very impressed by our school
and our student/staff relationships. There is some talk
about doing the exchange with a different school next
year.
- Sadie Hawkins Dance tickets will go on sale next
week; $8 in advance with the SB sticker; $10 at the
door. Leadership will talk to the DJ about playing
a wider variety of music. Games and food will also
be available. Chaperones are still needed…especially
with all of the planned activities.
- Pep assembly was OK, but it seemed that the agenda
was not followed. Leadership is seeking input on ways
to improve these activities.
Old Business:
- Parking; Senior parking in the South lot is
phasing in right now.
- Student of the Month breakfast is Thursday; staff
members are invited and encouraged to attend.
New Business:
- Outdoor furniture will be installed in the Student Lounge and
the outdoor area next to the new wing.
- Dennis showed the group drawings of a possible
enclosure project for the courtyard. Operations approved the
concept. If this happens, it will probably involve summer work.
- Tech Block would like to take an all day field trip to OMSI on
February 15. This looks fine to Operations.
- February 14 is Lane County Career Fair; we will have several
students going.
Process Advocate
- Questions on the no bandana rule. This possibly should have
been processed more with students in advance. Some teachers
wondered why we did not also look at the wider dress code.
Yes, we could do this and should involve students in the discussion.
The bandana rule was made specifically for safety reasons.
- Why are we not having Human Rights Day? Time involved and
low participation from students. Operations group and Site
Council both talked about doing some other activity this year.
It needs to be driven by student and staff interest.
- Pep assembly. Some teachers felt like everyone was not
represented in the assembly, even though students were released
early. Some staff felt like the assembly should be moved to a
different time of the day.
Some teachers complained about a couple who were touching each
other in an inappropriate manner. This behavior should be
addressed regardless of the couple’s sexual orientation.
