Return to Minutes Index
Members present: Joe, Hareem, Don, Audrey, Theresa, Karla, Dennis,
Cindy S., Lynne
Minutes
- Dennis read the minutes from our last meeting. These were
accepted by the group.
Leadership
- Students working on upgrading the Student Lounge will be
looking at some district surplus furniture. Next week, students
will
celebrate the season with free candy canes and hot chocolate;
this will
happen in the hallway. On Friday, several leadership students
will go
caroling at the local senior health care facility. IHS would
like to
hold their annual film festival in the Auditorium in February
(17 or
24). Students are looking for dates for the Winter Formal.
Joe suggested that Leadership do something for Valley West
residents for the holiday season. Hareem indicated that Leadership
will take up the matter and probably do something.
- Old Business
- Audrey and Theresa are waiting to hear from others eager
to work on the White Day Committee. In the meantime, they are
exploring options themselves.
- Human Rights Day is
tentatively scheduled for March 15. A
staff committee is working on the format.
New Business
- Dennis reminded folks (and the staff via these minutes)
to be sure to let Jenifer Pleus know if you are interested in
using the
Fitness Center. Also, please monitor students and make certain
that
all supervisors and users of equipment have been trained.
Open
- French Club/Petanque- would like to sell French Baclava in
the
hallways. The group did not see a problem (other than sticky
fingers). A concern was expressed that there have been times when
the
office counter seems to be unattended. Dennis and Karla will discuss
the situation with office staff and assistants. Karla reported
that
several folks have expressed concern about announcements being
difficult to hear. It seems that in some parts of the building
they
are loud, and very difficult to hear in others. We will ask Buddy
for
advice on the matter. Don also mentioned that perhaps students
could
use some training in terms of their delivery.
- Parking- many people
are not using their tags. We discussed
asking Todd to issue more tickets. Most of the group also felt
that
the tickets are too expensive and that more frequent tickets/warnings
with lower fines would be more effective.
- Water - again, there
is a new filter on the sink in the staff
room. This replaces the very expensive bottled water. Dennis
agreed
to help to continue to provide water for the fitness center
and the
h-hall.
