Open Agenda

  • Student Leadership is meeting with other 4J high schools
in an effort to send aide to Tsunami victims.
  • Student Leadership is also looking to do a Human Rights Survey during
    human rights week.
  • SIP Feedback from December Staff Meeting: Staff members shared with
the council what the staff of WCHS is thinking about with respect to
    the missionof WCHS.
  • A staff list of issues-to-ponder was presented.
    Examples are:
  • Will English alone foot the workload for literacy?
  • What about the ELL program?
  • Should math literacy be a part of this?
  • How about technoliteracy?
  • Time&when will we structure all of this?
  • Will we want an advisory program for students?
  • And more
  • Site Council formed a group to work-upseveral Mission Statement
    possiblilities.

Vision Statement Update

  • A staff in-service on Monday, Jan 3, was
dedicated to defining the vision for the future Churchill High School.
After several hours some strands began to emerge. They were:
  • Personalization, Empowerment/Lifelong learning, Community Involvement,
Academic Rigor, Lancer Pride/Character Development, and one or two
    others (that I cannot remember).
  • Note to ourselves: We need to plan for the monitoring of programs that
we initiate. We need to know if what we initiate is doing what we
    intended.

Gates Grant Update

  • The deadline for the application is Feb 21st.
Shall we apply or shall we not. The majority of the staff responded
that we probably should apply (with reservations). So, lets fill out
the application but continue on the path of discovery of our selves.
By spring we will know better in which direction we want to move with
WCHS. When spring comes we will be offered the grant or we will not.
If we are not offered the grant, we will continue on as always. If we
are offered the grant and it fits our vision well enough that we can
use it, then we will accept it. If it is offered and it cannot be
structured with our vision, we will turn it down.

Enrollment Projections

  • The projection for WCHS enrollment for next
fall is 1309 students. We are presently at 1536 students. We could
lose up to about 3 FTE (worst case scenario).

Respectfully submitted by:
Don Cataldo
