Open Agenda
OSSI:
- CHS did not receive the 60% needed to accept the grant. The
OSSI Grant timeline was an issue.
- The following list of concerns was made:
- How can Site Council set up a plan to avoid issues with time
sensitive issues?
- How do we as a group plan for grants?
- How can we get parents involved with big decisions during the
time crunch?
- Student performance was not looked at during the process.
- Data needs to be collected (possibly CIM scores) during the
discussion to move forward.
- The question was raised what Site Council can specifically do
to help CHS move toward “personalizing” the high school
experience.
- It wassuggested this question and these concerns be looked at
as Churchill may head for the SLC grant.
SLC Grant:
- The new SLC Grant is a five year grant worth approximately $650,000-800,000
for a school our size.
- The difference with this grant is as follows:
- They expect change the first year.
- Annual data must be sent in.
- By the end of the 5th year, every student must be involved in
some form of a SLC.
- Students must not be ability grouped.
- Positive comments about the grant included that this could improve
what we already have at CHS, and the new graduation requirements
naturally direct schools and staff into a SLC model, so why not
take advantage of the grant.
- There was concern that staff would not have the energy to address
such a big issue for the May deadline.
Year-End Report:
- A very small sub group of Site Council members met. It is difficult
at this time of year to collect data,
so administrators should work during the summer collecting data
for us to work with next year for our
School Improvement Plan.
- Denis shared a SIP Spring 2005 progress report and Site Council
gave input to what should be included in
our report.
Human Rights Day Update:
- It is too late to survey the student population.
- Leadership will work with Cindy at this point to get the student
perspective. A staff survey will be
given.
Chalkboard Project:
- There are “town meetings” held around the state
to find out how people want to change schools.
- The union sent Wes information and he has been to one meeting.
- He has feedback booklets to gather input from the community
to send to the Chalkboard people.
- We discussed if there was an avenue to tap into our staff and
community.
- It was decided that Wes would put information in staff boxes
and the project would be
announced in the next staff meeting.
