Announcements

The EEF grants were announced and both of ours were granted.
  • Books for Bookworm Club
  • Read Write Books for Alternative School

Leadership Update

  • Leadership will be putting on a CDC (Child Development Center) Holiday Party in December.
  • Toys for Tots is another planned project involvement, however, if the canned food drive under way now is not successful, they will not do Toys for Tots.
  • This winter during basketball games, staff and students may purchase Fear the Dome t-shirts for the basketball games. Students will have one color and staff a different color.
  • The Climate Survey has not been done yet in Leadership.

Update From Dennis

  • Dennis just returned from Miami where he attended a workshop put on by the Wallace Foundation called Building Professional Learning Communities. Topics included strengthening teacher teams, having a mission and vision. It was a good experience and Wallace will be sending a team to visit our school in the future.
  • Dennis and Cindy Sainz also attended the Oregon School Board Association Conference in Portland where our own Wes Flinn and Katy McAuliffe presented on Churchill's Small Learning Communities. Both Wes and Katy did an outstanding job. It was good for Churchill.

Open Agenda Items

  • The open agenda item mentioned last meeting, regarding staff agreements, will be on the Dec 7 Staff Meeting agenda

School Improvement Plan

Small group representatives from each group that met last meeting reported on their group topic and suggested changes.

Literacy Group: Add that staff continue to be informed on what's happening in Read Write Program (strategies, techniques, outcomes) Also, some training or presentations on reading in the content area, instructional strategies to help with those in transition out of Read Write (more general for teachers to use in content classes)

Instructional Practices: 2.11 - add in-service day in January, curriculum council meetings, staff meetings, department meetings.

Vision Statement: 3.14 - limited work with stakeholders right now on this topic. Survey going out to community and parents in Dec/Jan G'Lancer and will be available at basketball games, band concerts, etc.

  • 3.13 - delete
  • 3.2 - done
  • 3.3 - still working on, suggested we finish 3rd goal by end of school year.

Structural Changes: New goal, need to finish categories and a few site council members stayed after to complete this task!
