Our dedicated teachers, administrators, and support staff are thrilled to partner with you for an amazing 2026–2027 school year.

Dear Churchill Families,
What an incredible week it has been! Our campus was bursting with energy during Spirit Week, and it was wonderful to see so many of our students dressing up, showing their school pride, and participating throughout the week. We had a massive turnout at our Homecoming football game, and the dance was an absolute blast for everyone who attended.
Seeing our community come together like this is a great reminder of the deep roots we have here. The spirit and tradition of Churchill, which first began back in the 1960s, is alive, well, and stronger than ever with this current generation of students.
Academic Routine & Attendance
As we wrap up our second week of the school year, students are truly starting to settle into their daily schedules. This is a vital window of time for us to partner together and reiterate the importance of showing up and staying in class. It is common around this point in the term for students to start slipping or slacking off, but missing instruction now will only hurt them down the stretch.
-
Attendance Matters: Every single period counts. Please regularly check your student’s attendance records to ensure they are arriving on time and remaining in class throughout the day.
-
Stay Ahead on Coursework: Daily assignments should not be disregarded. The points earned on early assignments build a crucial safety net for grades later in the semester.
-
Teacher Communication: If you have any questions or concerns about how your student is adjusting or performing academically, please reach out directly to their teachers via email. Early communication makes a world of difference.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making this school year a success. As always, please feel free to reach out to our administration team if you have any questions or concerns.
Go, Lancers!

Congratulations to our CHS Civics students whose Community Action Project, "Shuttle to Success," earned a prestigious Exceptional designation at the 2026 Project Citizen National Showcase! Guided by former CHS IHS teacher Julia Von Holt, the team researched equal access to AP and IB courses and presented a practical proposal to expand cross-school transportation for district students.

The Graduation Party is community-sponsored. Liability is the responsibility of the organizers.
Calling all Class of 2027 parents and guardians! While graduation may feel far away, planning is already underway to give our seniors a fun, memorable, and safe celebration on graduation night, expected for June 8, 2027.
The Senior Grad Party is a cherished tradition, but it is not a school-sponsored event—it relies entirely on the energy, fundraising, and creativity of senior parents to make it happen. We currently have enthusiastic volunteers ready to help, but we are looking for a Party Chair (or Co-Chairs) to take the lead and steer the planning committee.
Stepping up to lead ensures our graduates get the send-off they deserve! If you are interested in heading up the committee or learning more about what the role entails, please contact Jodie Hoberg at jnhoberg@gmail.com. Let’s work together to make the Class of 2027's celebration unforgettable!

Eugene School District 4J is committed to open communication and keeping families informed. If you are not receiving emails and text messages from the district or your student’s school, please update your contact information with your student’s school.

Did you know students who bring lunch from home can round out their meal at school for free? Just select at least three items from the offering bar or hot line—including at least one fruit or vegetable—to build a balanced lunch.
|
With school approaching, it's a perfect time for parents to have a plan for student nutrition for the year. 4J Nutrition Services is ready to help, from sharing menus and supporting special dietary needs, to providing the pathway to setting up meal accounts.
This year will see some changes to school meals in 4J, which are similar to how all the neighboring school districts operate: each student will continue to receive one breakfast and one lunch each school day at no cost. Additional items, such as seconds, extra milks, or single milks for home lunch will be charged to the student's meal account. Families will have multiple resources available to help them understand the process, set up accounts, and manage payments with confidence. Budget constraints leave the district unable to continue a practice of allowing unlimited free additional meals. Student health and well-being is important for their success in school, and district staff will work with families to make sure every option and resource is explored for all health, nutrition and overall well-being concerns. Visit the Nutrition Services web page for more information and help.

As a new school year begins, consider talking with your teen about different ways to get to school. Walking, biking, scooting, skating, busing and carpooling can all be great options - and giving teens opportunities to travel independently helps them build confidence and important life skills.
If your teen is trying a new way to get to school, help them test the route ahead of time. Pro tip: the best walking or biking route isn’t always the same route you’d drive!
Resources for families:
Here’s to a great school year and helping teens build the skills to get where they’re going!

Dear Students and Families,
Community Defensive Driving Institute (CDDI) has expanded its driver education offerings to Springfield. We are excited to host a course this fall, October 10–December 19, at the Springfield Public Library. We invite you to sign up for the course! If you've previously had a student enrolled in the program, we'd also greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word to other families who may be interested. A few of our partner schools will be sharing the information in an upcoming newsletter but, we wanted to reach out to you all first.
Our organization is dedicated to providing Oregon teens and adults with the knowledge and skills needed to become safe, confident drivers. As an ODOT-approved driving school, students ages 15–17 who successfully complete the course will be eligible to take their final drive test directly with the instructor and owner, Juan G. Cordova, as part of the program.
Because this is a state-approved course and each lesson builds on the previous one, students are expected to attend all scheduled classes to successfully complete the program.
Enrollment for the fall course is limited to 25 students, and classes tend to fill quickly. We encourage interested students to register by September 18th. A payment plan option is available upon request. See application for details.
For additional information and to register, please visit:
We hope you'll join us this fall or send this information to a family. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
