Churchill High School Weekly Newsletter

March 15, 2026
Family Bulletin header with red text, a newspaper titled 'NEWS,' and a pair of black-framed glasses resting on the newspaper.
Dear Churchill Families,

What an incredible energy we had in the building to wrap up this week! I want to share a few highlights and some important reminders as we head into our final stretch before the spring holiday.

LSU Assembly Highlights
We closed out the week with a spectacular assembly hosted by our Latino Student Union (LSU). It was truly inspiring to see our students take the stage to share their heritage through dance, powerful spoken word, and presentations.

A huge thank you to the student organizers and performers who put in hours of rehearsal to make this happen. Seeing our community come together to celebrate the rich culture within our halls is always a highlight of the school year.

The One Week Rule
With only one week remaining until Spring Break, the excitement is definitely building. However, I want to emphasize a key point: The break is for getting a break, not for starting one early.

We are asking for your support in keeping students focused, engaged, and working hard through next Friday. We want them to cross the finish line feeling proud of their effort so they can truly relax and recharge once the holiday begins.

Attendance and The Big Picture
This week, attendance letters were mailed to families of students with multiple unexcused absences. I want to be very candid about a trend we are seeing: many students are "period skipping"—attending most of the day but missing one or two specific classes.

While it might seem minor to a teenager in the moment, the long-term impact is significant:
  • Academic Gaps: Missing even one hour of instruction can make the next several days of a unit difficult to follow.
  • Credit Risks: Frequent absences directly correlate with lower grades, which can jeopardize credits and, ultimately, graduation eligibility.

Often, students are focused on the "now" and don't realize how these small choices can narrow their future opportunities. Please take a moment to check your student’s attendance via the portal.

We’re Here to Help
If you received a letter or have any questions regarding your student’s attendance or academic standing, please don’t hesitate to call our main office to connect. We want to work with you to ensure every student stays on the path to success.

I hope everyone has a productive and positive week ahead!

A vibrant collage titled "Hispanic Heritage Assembly 2026" featuring five photos from a school event: students in traditional Quinceañera gowns, Folklorico dancers in colorful ruffled skirts, a musical trio with an accordion and drums, and a group of students holding various Latin American flags. The images are framed in orange and decorated with festive papel picado banners and small flag icons against a black background.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved in today’s Hispanic Heritage Assembly. The talent on display—from the musicians to the flag bearers—showcased the incredible spirit and history of our school's Hispanic and Latino community. Special thanks to the Latino Student Union and their adviser, Karen Rengifo, for organizing this special event and inviting performers from the community.
