Dear Churchill Families,
We hope everyone has had a strong transition from the break.
First, our updated cell phone policy has gone very well this week. Students are noticeably off their phones and engaging more with one another throughout the day. Because expectations were clearly communicated ahead of time, we have experienced very little pushback when students are required to leave their phones in the office for the remainder of the day. Thank you for helping reinforce this expectation at home.
As a reminder, students are not permitted to use their phones from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays). This includes holding phones in their hands, taking them out of backpacks at any time, or using AirPods or other connected devices during non-permitted times. We truly appreciate your partnership in emphasizing these guidelines with students.
We also want to celebrate an amazing MLK Assembly this week. The event featured powerful content created by our students and included an inspiring keynote delivered by one of our own. It was a meaningful and well-received experience for our school community, and we are very proud of our students.
Lastly, this feels like a good time to revisit another school policy: our dress code. We want families to be aware of the expectations so we can continue to work together proactively. Students are not permitted to show underwear (bra straps excluded) or private parts, including their rear end. Clothing may not include references to drugs or alcohol, be obscene, gang-related, or promote violence. This means items such as beer or brewery shirts, marijuana brands, or related imagery are not allowed. One of the most common examples we see is the marijuana brand “Cookies,” which is not permitted. Additionally, clothing that includes profanity or gun violence is not allowed.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like clarification on any of these expectations. We are always happy to help.
We hope everyone has a great week.
Go, Lancers!

Our community is rich with resources and skilled, compassionate providers. Our hope is that this guide will be a support to families as they navigate systems and access services. At this time, Relief Nursery is not able to translate the entire Resource Guide into Spanish, though we recognize the need and hope to pursue that project in the future. The Resource Guide includes some Spanish language translation, particularly in the areas that specifically focus on serving Hispanic and Latino clients, English as a Second Language classes, and Immigration and Migrant services.
